It is not always possible to list every event on the Events Calendar but Bradford Cancer Support would like to thank everyone who has become involved in raising funds towards our work. We love to hear about your efforts and acknowledge that sometimes it is difficult to keep up momentum when you are putting your fundraising ideas into practice. If you would like to talk over an idea for a community, corporate or individual event then please call Linda Enderby or Hayley Collis on 01274 776688 who will discuss ways in which they may be able to support you

Every penny you raise goes towards securing the future of Cancer Support in Bradford

Andrea Hanson was only 29 when she lost her battle against skin cancer. She was a loving mother to Ethan, daughter to Bob and Loraine and sister to Carla and Lora.

It was Andrea's wish to thank Bradford Cancer Support for the help she had received. On December 22nd Andrea's parents and son handed over a cheque for £19,105.00 to our Community Fundraiser, Linda Enderby.

The money was raised from a collection at Andrea's funeral and also from a very special event. Manningham Ward Club had been booked for 28th August to celebrate Andrea's 30th Birthday and her family made the decision to go ahead with the event to make it a celebration of her life. Andrea's sisters Carla and Lora put in a lot of work to help make the evening a success. Ethan took part in a fancy dress event at his karate club, Andrea's cousin Nick Gresswell entered the New York Marathon and his father Steve, who works at Grattan, as did Andrea, successfully applied to the company's Tony Rampton Trust, for match-funding of all the money that had been raised.

The cheque was handed over almost a year to the day that Andrea had told her parents that her cancer was terminal. Bob and Loraine said “It is quite a strange time of year for us because it brings back so many memories but people like Bradford Cancer Support are always around to help. They have been fantastic and it is an honour to hand over so much money. It is a legacy for Andrea.”

Bradford Cancer Support is very grateful to all of Andrea's family and friends for such a wonderful donation. The money will be put to very good use to help support other patients and families whose lives are affected by cancer.

108 Holes In A Day Charity Golfathon

Having turned 50 this year, I wanted to give something back and undertake a fundraising challenge.

So, on Monday 5th July, I will be playing 108 holes (6 rounds of golf) at Shipley Golf Club.

My aim is to raise £6,000 to be split between 3 very worthy causes - Manorlands Cancer Hospice in Oxenhope, Martin House Children's Hospice in Boston Spa and Bradford Cancer Support.

Starting at 4.30am, I estimate this will take me about 14 hours. I will be playing properly marked stroke play golf and will finish every hole.

I am too infirm to climb mountains and run marathons. The opportunity to spend 14 hours playing golf is not a real chore, however, in view of my current fitness levels it will require a respectable amount of physical endeavour.

I will be ably assisted by a selection of good friends who have volunteered to caddy and provide beer, cheeseburgers, ralgex and vaseline along the way...

I hope you will find it possible to support me in this fundraising event. All donations will be really appreciated.
